I have very much enjoyed doing “Moment with Mark” most Mondays–Thursdays at noon on Facebook. If you have been tuning in lately, you know we have been discussing the Creation of the world, Adam and Eve eating the forbidden fruit, and now Cain murders his brother, Abel.

Genesis 4:9-12 Then the Lord said to Cain, “Where is Abel your brother?” And he said, “I do not know. Am I my brother’s keeper?” 10 He said, “What have you done? The voice of your brother’s blood is crying to Me from the ground. 11 Now you are cursed from the ground, which has opened its mouth to receive your brother’s blood from your hand. 12 When you cultivate the ground, it will no longer yield its strength to you; you will be a vagrant and a wanderer on the earth.”

It is good to read and study God’s Word, even when we might be very aware of the content. After gleaning from the Bible, I often consider other contemporary writers’ viewpoints to see how they might agree or conflict with my thoughts.

Marty Machowski concurs with my thinking as he adeptly writes that Adam’s sin, which started when he ate the forbidden fruit, spread to his children. At first, we see how sin hurts our relationship with God, and now we can clearly see how sin also affects the people around us.

Brothers should love one another, but because of sin Cain killed Abel. From Adam’s very first sin all the way through history until now, every person after Adam was born a sinner, except for one. There is only one far-off grandson of Adam who never sinned. Jesus is the only one who never sinned. Jesus always obeyed God, His Father, and He always loved the people around Him.

Cain and Abel brought their offerings to God in previous verses. I thank Jesus for giving the very best offering of all, His own life.

Christ Above All,

Pastor Mark
